Summer 2026 Events: August 4 – 8th
 
York Twinning Association is excited to welcome guests from Arles, France, to York, PA this summer.  Join us for a variety of activities, showcasing York County and the surrounding areas, as well as opportunities to socialize with YTA members and French guests.
 
Who’s invited to participate?  YTA members and friends, as well as anyone interested in participating in these events and/or learning more about YTA programs.

Events have participant capacity limits. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.
All events will take place rain or shine. No refunds for canceled tickets or no shows.

YORK DAY
Date: Tuesday, August 4
Time: 10 am – 12 pm (afternoon free to explore downtown York)
Cost: $6/person – limited to 25 ppl
Includes: History talk at Colonial Courthouse, tour of Gates House and Plough Tavern, and entry for a self-guided tour of York’s new History Center.  

Meet at York’s Colonial Courthouse (205 W. Market St.) for a short history of York’s French connections and then we’ll cross the street for a quick tour of the Gates House and Plow Tavern. Afterward, we’ll walk down the street to the new History Center for a self-guided tour. 

Optional – Spend the afternoon exploring downtown York. Enjoy lunch on your own at York Central Market, shop at local boutiques, and visit the Royal Square District, home to over 30 colorful, larger-than-life murals all in a one-block radius.

NATIVE AMERICAN DAY 
Date: Wednesday, August 5
Time: 9:30 am – 1 pm
Cost: $60/person – limited to 20 ppl SOLD OUT
Includes: Tour of the Zimmerman Center, boat tour, and house tour trail (participants should meet at the Zimmerman Center located at 1706 Long Level Rd, Wrightsville, PA 17368).
 
Take a tour of the Susquehanna River aboard Chief Uncas, a 1912 electric wooden boat built by beer tycoon Adolphus Busch and named after the leader of the Pequot tribe. Expert guides will tell you stories of native settlements, then take you on a tour of the Zimmerman Center, a restored historic home dating back to the Revolutionary War. Finally, you’ll have the opportunity to take a short hike on the Native Lands Heritage Trail to see the land where Native Americans last settled from 1676 to 1680. A boxed picnic lunch will follow at Klines’ Run Park.

                                                                                           

 WASHINGTON, DC BUS TOUR
Date: Friday, August 7
Time: 8 am - 8 pm (return time is an estimate, bus will depart DC at 5 pm)
Cost: $50/person – limited to 26
Includes: Round-trip coach bus transportation from the South York Plaza and a guided tour of the U.S. Capitol Building.
 
The bus will depart promptly at 8 am from South York Plaza (on Paulina Dr., behind York Vo-Tech). Once in DC, the bus will drive around the city, and YTA member Scott Markel will point out different landmarks, monuments, and memorials. Upon arrival at the US Capitol, the group will take a guided tour of the building, followed by lunch in the Capitol Visitor Center                        cafeteria (participants pay for their own lunch). The remainder of the day is free to explore the National Mall and Memorials and visit museums of your choice (most are free, but some, like the Air and Space Museum and the African American Museum, require reservations).

                                                                                                                                                

DINNER & LINE DANCING AT LAKE MEADE
Date: Saturday, August 8  
Time: 6 – 9 pm
Cost: $25/person – limited to 75 ppl
Includes: A catered meal, music and dancing, and instruction on three types of line dances.  Guests are asked to bring a dessert to share.
 
Join YTA members and friends for a summer celebration and farewell dinner for our Arlesian visitors at Lake Meade Community Center in East Berlin, PA. A catered meal will be served, followed by music and line dancing (the DJ will teach three different line dances).
 
Directions: 4 Forrest Dr., East Berlin, PA 17316.  When you get to the Lake Meade entrance, tell the gatekeeper you are there for the York Twinning Association event, and they will direct you to the Community Center. The YTA event will take place in the multi-purpose room on the lower level, and parking is adjacent.
