York Twinning Association is in close contact with our friends in Arles, France to navigate through the challenges of traveling during these ever-changing times. The safety and well-being of our members, student travelers, and those who would be visiting from our sister cities, is of utmost importance. Foreign language teachers have been notified that exchange plans for both French and German students are in the works for summer 2023. Students interested in traveling to Arles, France in summer 2023 should download the student packet. French Student Exchange
Students who wish to apply to travel to France must be 16 years of age by June 1st of the year of the exchange. Students must have completed 2 years of French. Interviews will be conducted in December and students will be notified of their selection by the end of the month. The trip to Arles is usually scheduled for the last week of June through the middle of July. French students travel to the United States with the returning York students. The French students will be in York approximately 2 weeks as well. The French students return home at the end of July. Students who are selected to go to Arles must host the French students with whom they have stayed upon their return home. Students are expected to reschedule part-time jobs during the stay of the French student in order to spend substantial time with him or her. Students are expected to attend the travel meetings before the trip and also share their experiences with York Twinning Association at its November meeting. Students are also expected to share their experiences with students who will travel to Arles the following summer. The Marguerite Eriksson Memorial Fund is available to students who demonstrate an exceptional ability in French and/or need.
